FIFA 2010 Opening ceremony and opening game

Well done South Africa and Bafana Bafana for scoring the first goal of the whole event!

And what a fantastic goal it was.

The opening ceremony did us proud even though it was relatively short. 

There was a great vibe on the streets of Johannesburg from early morning, and the closer we got to lunch time, the more we heard the vuvuzelas and the car hooters, and everyone being very merry. 

The roads were packed with cars heading for Soweto and Soccer City, and the various fan parks.  People of all race and creed wearing yellow and green, and flags flying, and people being jolly and excited and happy.  And even with the roads and traffic being as they were, people were patient and kind and cooperative.  Fantastic energy.

And the hosts scored the first goal in a stadium that was packed to near capacity, some 85 000 people.  The colours were fantastic to see, the noise, the excitement. 

Did I say it was all fantastic :)
