Seeds of Greatness: Self-Esteem (an excerpt from Denis's Safari to the Soul)
Denis Waitley
Many times since, people have asked me what the most important thing you should take with you on a tented safari in East Africa. I always answer, “If you don’t love yourself, and life, you will be lost, ill at ease or bored.”
When I think of self-love, I don’t see it as narcissism or selfish worship of the man or woman in the mirror. I believe self-esteem is a healthy ability to share with others the value you feel inside yourself, without expecting a quid pro quo payoff. When I consider the word soul as I’m referring to it in this book, I believe it is the purity and beauty of an individual’s core values. Core values radiate like rings, as when a leaf falls in a pond. —Denis Waitley
The buffer of time gives you the opportunity to get it right before it manifests, to take pleasure from the vision and from the molding it into place... Can you imagine if everything was manifesting instantly? You would manifest this, and then you would manifest it away. And then you'd manifest that, and then... It would be a difficult thing if you were instantly manifesting every whim or every misaligned thought. It's so much better that you have this buffer of time where you can feel it into perfection before it manifests into your experience.

Vitamins for the Mind, by Jim Rohn
Personal Responsibility
Don’t become a victim of yourself. Forget about the thief waiting in the alley; what about the thief in your mind?
It is not what happens that determines the major part of your future. What happens, happens to us all. It is what you do about what happens that counts.
You say, “The country is messed up.” That’s like cursing the soil and the seed and the sunshine and the rain, which is all you’ve got. Don’t curse all you’ve got. When you get your own planet, you can rearrange this whole deal. This one you’ve got to take like it comes.
Walk away from the 97 percent crowd. Don’t use their excuses. Take charge of your own life.
Take advice, but not orders. Only give yourself orders. Abraham Lincoln once said, “Since I will be no one’s slave, I will be no one’s master.”
You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of. You don’t have charge of the constellations, but you do have charge of whether you read, develop new skills, and take new classes.
Your paycheck is not your employer’s responsibility; it’s your responsibility. Your employer has no control over your value, but you do.
