Vakhegula-Vakhegula at US Adult Soccer Assn Veteran's Cup Tournament Massachusetts

"We recently learned about a very special group of grandmothers in Limpopo, South Africa who had an amazing dream. They wanted to come to America to compete in the United States Adult Soccer Association Veteran's Cup tournament in Massachusetts.

Vakhegula-Vakhegula means 'Grannies' in the local Xitsonga dialect. The team was founded by Beka Ntsanwisi, who is known as "Mother Theresa of Limpopo." Beka saw that the women needed exercise and fun to help them have healthier lives and got them playing soccer. Now known as the "Soccer Grannies," twice a week the women, ages 49 - 84, swap domestic chores for football, donning soccer boots instead of their usual rubber sandals to play in local matches.

We realized we could help these women, who must overcome significant obstacles to play soccer and have a healthy life, achieve their dream. On Wednesday they will arrive in Boston. We'll receive recognition as the Grannies' sponsor at the games and in the press.They've already received quite a bit of worldwide press and we expect good news coverage this week.
