Get-this-Now: Wellness Tip 3/5 - Recognising the signs of stress

Be on the look out for the following symptoms that might indicate Stress:

Feeling sweaty with a pounding heart
Feeling sick in the stomach Having a dry mouth Working to exhaustion Being constantly irritable
Loss in appetite for food/sex Loss of sense of humour Loss of interest in others Tearfulness
Feeling tired and having no energy
Difficulty in sleeping

Beat stress for a healthy heart
Keep your weight down - the most vital measurement to affect the heart is the circumference of the waist
Exercise - try to walk daily, briskly for half an hour
Drink water
Cut down on smoking and alcohol and try to give up completely

Stress can increase the risk of blood clots and raise blood pressure. It can affect your state of mind so you become reliant on quick fixes such as overeating. It can discourage you from relaxing and spending time on healthy physical activity.

Identify the things that make you feel stressed.

Tackle the source by avoiding the stressful situation, tackle the cause (e.g. overloaded with work), and if you can't change the source, try changing your attitude towards it. (Source: TODAY mag)
